This week’s featured artist is pianist Meng-Chieh Liu, who has appeared frequently with violinist, Nicholas Kitchen and cellist, Yeesun Kim at concerts at St. Stephen's. On October 30, 2016, the three musicians presented an all Russian program at St. Stephen’s consisting of Prokofiev’s F minor violin sonata, a cello sonata by Schnittke, and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio. If you attended the concert, you can now relive their impassioned performance of the first movement of the Tchaikovsky trio by going to the 20:34 minute mark of this YouTube video. The video was assembled by Nicholas Kitchen for the Friday Letter of May 8, 2020 from recordings he had made of several concerts at St. Stephen’s.

Next you hear Meng-Chieh perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major in Jordan Hall with the Borromeo String Quartet and Justin Cheesman, string bass.

Meng-Chieh then plays the first movement of Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 1 in C minor. Next come the 2nd and 3rd movements of the third sonata in F minor. Our virtual concert closes with a performance of Brahms’ Scherzo No. 4.
