 Current Opportunities

Here’s some volunteer opportunities you can get involved in right now!

Calling All Volunteers! - UMD’s Community Cafe

Urban Ministries of Durham is excited to announce that starting May 1st, inside dining will be offered to all individuals in need of a meal at the Community Café. This change comes after implementing necessary safety protocols and guidelines, including a Covid-19 vaccination policy, mask-wearing, and protective barriers. The support of volunteers from St. Stephen's Parish is greatly appreciated during this transition. Thank you for 40 years of service and for contributing to the mission of ending homelessness and fighting poverty in the Durham community. Please visit this sign-up link for more information on how you can get involved. Any questions contact Viki Baker.

Housing for New Hope

Eviction moratoriums have recently begun to expire across NC. This has left some Housing for New Hope clients struggling to catch up on rent and retain their housing, and HNH is struggling to provide them with the rental assistance needed. If you are able, please prayerfully consider making a financial contribution to Housing for New Hope to help our neighbors maintain their homes. You can donate to them directly here or make a one-time contribution through SSEC’s Giving page, indicating Housing for New Hope in the notes field.
