St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is a faith community that is dedicated to spreading the love of God through worship, lifelong education, and acts of service. 

St. Stephen’s is a diverse congregation made up of individuals and families from all walks of life and at all places along faith’s journey. Maybe it’s your first time in church. Perhaps you’re new to the area and searching for a church home. Or it might be that you’re trying to find a community where it’s okay to ask difficult questions about life and faith. What draws us together is that we are a people who seek to serve Christ in one another, and there is always room to come grow with us along the way.

We’re located in the residential Hope Valley area of southwest Durham, and our picturesque, wooded campus offers a place of serenity surrounded by the beauty of nature. In the midst of that peaceful setting, you’ll find a church bustling with activity. The sounds of bells and the organ beckon us into worship, while children run over from their Sunday formation class, carrying a craft that reminds them how much God loves them. But the work of discipleship doesn’t end when worship is over. We are also found at Urban Ministries of Durham serving lunch and gathering food and funds to help the food insecure in our community. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we reach out to those in need in our parish, in the community, and in the world.
