This week's Friday Letter features Andrew Tyson starting with Bach's Prelude and Fugue in D minor from Book II of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. Next comes Chopin’s Nocturne in E major, Op. 62, No. 2, performed at the 2010 international Chopin Competition in Warsaw. That is followed by César Franck’s Prelude, Chorale and Fugue, regarded as one of the greatest piano masterpieces of the 19th century. Next comes a trailer to Andrew’s recording of music by Ravel and Scriabin. What you hear at the end of the trailer you will hear again when Andrew performs Scriabin’s 10th Sonata, a chromatic and atonal work famous for its use of trills and tremolos. In this case, you see the score of this piece rather than Andrew’s fingers.
